Cynthia Wright, Principal
Cindy Wright founded CJW Associates in 1999, based on her track record of managing communications projects for non-profit and health agencies, from the grassroots level through nationwide efforts.
A graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park’s College of Journalism, Cindy began her career working for a local American Heart Association chapter, recruiting and developing new volunteer boards, managing fundraising events and PR activities. Her experience managing national-level programs took off with her work for Prospect Associates in Rockville, Maryland. There, she managed the newly-established National Kidney & Urologic Diseases Clearinghouse for the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Cindy Wright built the clearinghouse’s section of the federal Combined Health Information Database and responded to patient and public inquires. While at Prospect Associates, Cindy also wrote patient and professional education materials for the Food & Drug Administration and other NIH clients on topics such as cancer and HIV/AIDS.
As the National Kidney Foundation’s Public Affairs Director in the organization’s national headquarters in New York City, Cindy Wright managed national media relations, supported local chapter PR events and activities with one-on-one consultation and annual public service campaign development. She directed the U.S. Transplant Games’ national PR and managed the multi-day event’s logistics. In marketing communications positions for the American Lung Association’s national headquarters also in New York, Cindy's broad areas of work included strategic marketing partnerships between corporations/brands and the nonprofit sector, staff training, internal communications, and campaign development and management. She managed the development of marketing plans for existing and new products and services, developed and directed marketing and communications activities to support cause-related marketing relationships, and developed strategies to fortify and streamline communications programs among 100 diverse, independent member associations.
Since establishing CJW Associates, Cindy Wright has executed editorial and professional education projects, event management and conference support.
Cindy is Co-President of the Society of Professional Communicators and provides pro bono grant writing, communications strategy, and editorial services to local and start-up non-profits, including the Shrewsbury Education Foundation, Self Chec, and Executive Service Corps. She volunteers time in elementary school classrooms, for two PTOs, and as a religious education instructor for her church.
