American Lung Association State of the Air Report

Client: American Lung Association
CJW Associates creates national press kit materials and turn-key media tools for local affiliates of the American Lung Association for this annual air quality report. Materials include key messages for spokespersons and staff, backgrounders and fact sheets, op-ed columns and letters-to-the-editor, national press release, and a series of turn-key local news releases that can be modified to reflect state-specific data and policy angles.

Client: Children's Brain Tumor Foundation
CJW Associates created press kit materials, including an organizational backgrounder and pediatric brain and spinal cord tumors fact sheet as core media materials as the foundation built its media resources for the first time. The news release announced one of the organization’s first major research endeavors.

Promise of Research*

Client: American Lung Association
This quarterly newsletter written for a consumer audience focuses on lung disease research. CJW Associates works with the client’s Chief Medical Officer and research staff to create the annual editorial calendar; each issue is focused on one lung disease or category of diseases. For each issue, CJW Associates interviews and profiles a researcher, and a patient or volunteer; the feature article is based on an interview with a pulmonologist as well as online research. Originally published for print distribution, it is now available as an e-newsletter only.

Client: Vitality Communications for American Lung Association
As a regular contributor for several issues of this quarterly magazine, Cynthia Wright wrote a range of articles, from patient features to report summaries and researcher profiles. Work included identifying story ideas with the publisher, and interviewing medical researchers, public policy experts, and volunteers.

As a regular contributor to this semi-monthly membership publication for several years, Cynthia Wright is responsible for the Practice Management articles. Client: Self Chec
For this pro bono client, CJW Associates created content for a new chronic disease section with prevention basics for heart disease, obesity and diabetes. The site focuses on promoting disease prevention.  The challenge in creating content for Self Chec is in distilling layered medical information from federal health agencies into very simple, top-line prevention messages.

Arukor Communications

Client: Arukor Communications, Inc.
For this new digital agency, CJW Associates edited content throughout the site to be more customer-focused, guiding the visitor through simplified language describing wide-ranging technical and visual identity capabilities. The challenge in editing this content was in simplifying technical content so that it could be easily digested by the agency’s typical customer, small business owners without technical staff expertise.

Denyne Designs

Client: Arukor Communications for Denyne Designs
CJW Associates edited content for the site launch, with a focus on drawing the visitor into the interior designer’s creative process from concept to finished room. Work included creating descriptive content and editing for clarity and consistency throughout the site.

Keeping Kidney Patients Safe

Client: Captus Communications, LLC for the Renal Physicians Association
Working with the Renal Physicians Association digital media agency, CJW Associates created components of the Spotlight On Safety and Patient Safety Improvement Toolkit sections of the site, which is directed toward for clinical and administrative staff in dialysis facilities. Work included researching technical guides and interviewing clinical and administrative dialysis staff.

Connecting Knowledge, Discovery and Care

Client: UMass Medical School and UMass Memorial Health Care Development Office
(formerly UMass Memorial Foundation)
CJW Associates wrote this corporate overview presenting the UMass Medical School and UMass Memorial Health Care as a comprehensive academic medical center to high-end donors. The 28-page booklet is the first such identity piece and incorporates the organization’s academic, clinical and research centers, highlighting initiatives of world-renown faculty and staff.

For this pro bono client, CJW Associates created a series of appeal letters to support the nonprofit agency’s sole annual fundraising effort. Work included focusing content on the agency’s benefits to its clients and the local community, and consistently incorporating “the ask” throughout the letter.

National Strategies for Health Care Providers: Pesticides Initiative

Client: National Environmental Education Foundation
For this multi-year primary care provider education program, CJW Associates provided overall communications coordination. Spectrum of work ranged from editing the project’s 142-page Implementation Plan based on review by federal health agencies and medical organizations, creating background materials for media and stakeholder organizations, providing conference support and compiling a 96-page conference proceedings report.

Nurses and Environmental Health: Success Through Action

Client: National Environmental Education Foundation
CJW Associates wrote the introduction and edited this 48-page series of case studies for the National  Environmental Education Foundation. The challenge of this project was based in the evolution of the project, which did not include writer’s guidelines or other specifications; the editing therefore included working to ensure consistency of format and within a range of styles.

Asthma-Friendly Schools Initiative Toolkit*

Client: American Lung Association
CJW Associates wrote this 176-page training guide, which evolved through several pilot-tested versions rolled out throughout the U.S. Work included building the guide based on the results of a multi-day workshop with contributions by health and education experts representing professional and voluntary organizations as well as federal agencies such as the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) and the National Institutes of Health. This CDC-funded program resource guide is targeted for local health agencies and school staff.

Vacuuming and Cleaner Indoor Air for Schools*

Clients: ProTeam and American Lung Association
Working with an American Lung Association corporate partner and the organization’s education staff, CJW Associates wrote this health-focused brochure intended for school facilities staff and administrators, which included message consistency between the agency and the corporate partner. CJW Associates also consulted with the corporate partner’s designers to ensure that the health message and content was not superseded by product concerns.

American Lung Association 100th Anniversary Celebration* 

Client: American Lung Association
CJW Associates planned the agency’s nationwide staff and volunteer celebration luncheon. Work involved: facilitating a task force of the organization’s former leadership who presented a vision for the next century; assembling state-specific milestones that became a state-pride focus of the event and were highlighted in the printed program; creating the event’s print program; developing speeches and presentations; recruiting a local celebrity host;  and coordinating event logistics.
